BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bailey Marth scored six goals and dished out three assists Wednesday to lead Illinois Wesleyan to a 22-6 win over Augustana at Tucci Stadium. The Vikings fell to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the CCIW, while the Titans improved to 13-1 on the season and 5-0 in the conference.
Junior goalie Tommy Angelos tied a
school record with 22 saves Wednesday,
but Augustana dropped a 22-6 decision
to Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington,
Illinois.
Marth and Ty Collins each scored twice as the hosts took a 7-0 lead after one quarter. Marth also assisted on both of Collins' goals.
A Will Rossi goal made it 8-0 IWU before Augustana got on the board with 8:55 left in the first half. Senior
Jason Van Dyck (
Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) scored off an assist from freshman
Travis Hastings (Englewood HS, Littleton, Colo.). Hastings assisted on Will Reece's
(Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.) goal at 2:55 of the second quarter to pull the Vikings to within 9-2 at intermission.
IWU's Cole Harden scored twice and
Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) and
Lee Whorwell (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) tallied Augustana goals in the third quarter, which ended with the Titans leading 13-4.
Reece cut the Vikings' deficit to eight with the first goal of the final period, but Marth and Rick Smith each scored twice in a span of four minutes to extend the IWU lead back to 17-5. Forsythe assisted on a Whorwell goal midway through the period before the hosts tallied the last five goals of the game to account for the final.

Reece and Whorwell had two goals apiece to lead the Vikings. Hastings had two assists and freshman
Matt Pierson (Montini HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was credited with a half-dozen ground balls.
In addition to Marth's big game, Rossi and Smith each scored four goals and Smith added a pair of assists for the Titans. J.C. Grabarek and Max Bousky combined to win 27 of 32 faceoffs and snare 19 ground balls and goalie Benigno Hauser turned away 19 Augustana shots.
IWU finished with advantages of 63-36 in shots, 44-25 in shots on goal and 40-30 in ground balls.
Coach
Dan Torie's club will close out the 2019 regular season on Saturday, April 27 at Elmhurst. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
