Schiferl 2nd team All-MVCL for second straight year

Sophomore libero Matthew Schiferl has been named to
the 2019 All-MCVL second team.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League has announced its 2019 all-conference team and Augustana's Matthew Schiferl (Wheeling HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) has earned a spot for the second year in a row. Schiferl was a second team selection.
 
A 5' 6" sophomore libero, Schiferl led the Vikings and finished second in the MCVL with 284 digs this year. His average of 2.93 per set ranked third in the league. He was one of just three Augustana players to appear in all 27 matches and his 97 sets played ranked second on the team. He also finished third on the team with 68 assists.
 
Schiferl's season high of 20 digs came in a five-set win over eventual MCVL Tournament champion and NCAA Tournament qualifier Fontbonne on March 3.
 
The career record holder for the two-year old Augustana program with 588 digs, Schiferl also holds Viking records for career games (195) and matches (54) played, career digs per game (3.02), digs in a season (304), digs per game in a season (3.10) and digs in a match (25).
 
The son of Joy and Dan Schiferl of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Matthew is an English major at Augustana.
