Sophomore Sandra Pielechaty had
three assists in Augustana's 14-13
overtime loss to Adrian Sunday.

With 53 seconds remaining in regulation, Adrian's Annie Rice tied the game at 13-all on a free position goal into an empty net following a yellow card issued to Augustana goalie Courtney Veitch (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.). Another Bulldog free position shot in the final minute was blocked by a Viking defender and the teams went to overtime.

With Augustana still a player down, Adrian's Hannah Roegner controlled the opening draw of the extra session and fired a shot that sailed high. The Bulldogs maintained possession however and after a shot by Gwyneth Carlson hit the post, she gathered the rebound and put in the game winner with 2:23 remaining in the first overtime.

The Vikings controlled play early. Bailey Aasen (Park HS, Cottage Park, Minn.) and Emily Lucnik (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) each scored twice and Christina McCabe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) and Sandra Pielechaty (Taft HS, Chicago, Ill.) dished out a pair of assists apiece as Augustana rolled to a 7-2 halftime advantage.

Pielechaty assisted on a Kathryn Hettiger (Carmel HS, Carmel, Ind.) goal less than a minute into the second half and the hosts led 8-2.

Rice scored consecutive goals less than a minute apart to kick start Adrian's comeback. When Roegner scored the last of four consecutive Bulldog goals with 13:36 to play, the guests were within 10-9. After Aasen and Carlee Casteel traded goals, Carlson scored to tie the contest at 11-all. Tallies by Hettiger and Aasen put the Vikings back up 13-11 with 5:20 left in regulation, but Rice scored at the 3:13 mark, setting up her game-tying goal 140 seconds later.

Aasen finished with five goals and Hettiger four. Pielechaty and McCabe each had three assists. Margaret Cecilio (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) controlled five draws. Veitch (nine saves) led Augustana with six ground balls and Hettiger had a team-best three caused turnovers.

Rice had five goals and three assists for Adrian and goalie Hannah Emerson was credited with eight saves.

The Bulldogs outshot the Vikings by a 33-23 margin, although Augustana led in ground balls (27-25) and draw controls (16-13). Adrian committed 23 turnovers to 33 for the hosts.

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday, March 27, hosting Monmouth at Thorson-Lucken Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
