Senior Gunnar Haskins went 1-for-3
with an RBI Tuesday, but Augustana
dropped a 7-3 decision to Cabrini in
Winter Haven, Florida.

The Cavaliers (5-2) took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Andrew Corso touched Augustana starter Connor Berek (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.) for a leadoff single and one out later, Justin Henry doubled. Corso scored the first run on Steven Priest's RBI single, Henry scored when Shaun Stackhouse reached on an error and Joe Aurite singled in another run.

Cabrini made it 5-0 in the fourth on Stackhouse's two-run single.

Cavalier starter Kyran Weemaels cruised through the first four innings, but Augustana knocked him out with two runs in the fifth. Nick Mosele's (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) two-out single started things and Josh Barker (Windsor HS, Severance, Colo.) doubled him to third. Consecutive walks to Tyler Nunez (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.), Gunnar Haskins (Alleman HS, Moline, Ill.) and Jake Huber (Lockport HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) forced in two runs and ended Weemaels' day. Drew Swire came out of the pen and induced an inning-ending fly out by CCIW Hitter of the Week Ryan Grannemann (McHenry West HS, McHenry, Ill.).

Cabrini added a run in the sixth on an Aurite sacrifice fly and Priest's RBI single in the seventh made it 7-2.

Augustana's final run came in the top of the ninth on freshman Drew Davis' (Illini Bluffs HS, Mapleton, Ill.) second homer of the spring.

Swire went the final 4 1/3 to earn the win. He gave up three hits, one run and one walk while fanning four. Berek (0-1) gave up nine hits and five runs in four innings and took the loss. Freshman Max Mead (Lakewood HS, Lakewood, Colo.), who went the last 1 1/3, was the only of four Viking hurlers to go unscored upon.

Priest went 4-for-4 to pace the Cavalier offense. Henry and Tyler Norris added three hits apiece.
