Wednesday, but Augustana dropped
a 16-7 decision to Transylvania
in Lexington, Kentucky.

Transy jumped on top with goals by Bryce Lowe and Peyton Bray in the opening minute. Adam Borgetti (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) answered for Augustana and the Vikings tied when Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) scored off a Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) assist. However, when Quinn Fox scored for the Pioneers at 10:39 of the first quarter, the hosts had the lead for good.

Augustana trailed just 4-3 after another Borgetti tally with 3:10 left in the first, but Transylvania scored the next three goals, including two by Lowe, to take a 7-4 early in the second period.  Jason Van Dyck (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Borgetti sandwiched goals around one by Pioneer Kayd Aquino before Transy scored the final three of the period to lead 11-5 at intermission.

Nic Bailey scored twice for the Pioneers to start the third and they added two more goals to go up 15-5 before a Forsythe tally with 3:40 left in the quarter snapped a 7-0 Transylvania run. Moore scored early in the fourth and Pioneer Sheymus Maloney's goal with 3:35 to play accounted for the final.

Borgetti finished with three goals and Forsythe two. Freshman John Calabrese (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) won eight of 20 faceoffs and Matt Balara (St. Charles North HS, Elburn, Ill.) led the Vikings with six ground balls. Freshman Matt Pierson (Montini HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) caused four turnovers and classmate Cameron Duffy (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.) made 17 saves in goal—tied for the 10th-most ever in a game at Augustana.

Bailey and Lowe led Transylvania with three goals each. Pioneer goalies Michael Webb and Luke Garas combined for nine saves.

Transy outshot the Vikings by a 50-22 margin and led 43-26 in ground balls. Augustana committed 30 turnovers to 23 for the Pioneers.

Next up for Coach Dan Torie's outfit is a Wednesday, February 27 contest at University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
