ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Jayla Johnson and Josie Summerville combined for 33 points and North Park held Augustana to .283 shooting from the field Tuesday as the visiting Vikings beat the host Vikings 63-47 in the first round of CCIW Tournament play at Carver Center. Coach Mark Beinborn's outfit ends the season at 14-12, while NPU advances to Friday's tournament semifinals at Wheaton with a record of 11-15.

 

Augustana never recovered from a 3-for-21 shooting performance in the first quarter. Senior Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) gave the hosts their only lead of the night with a field goal just over a minute in, but Zakiya Newsome scored four points as North Park answered with a 9-0 run and never looked back. A pair of Johnson free throws pushed the margin to 10 (14-4) before a Justice Edell (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) bucket cut the Augustana deficit to 14-6 at the quarter.
 
Beinborn's bunch scored the first four points of the second period, but NPU answered again, getting four points from Lauren Alba Garner in a 6-0 run that made it 20-10. A Summerville layup gave the visitors their biggest lead of the half at 27-15 before an Edell layup made it 27-17 at the half.
 
Senior Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) tallied the first field goal of the second half, but North Park responded with eight straight to go up 35-19. A pair of Jacki Rapp free throws at the 3:55 mark of the third quarter gave the visitors their biggest lead of the night at 41-21, but senior Scooter Lopez (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) hit Augustana's first three-pointer of the game to ignite an 18-4 run.
 
A trey by senior Izzy Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) pulled the hosts to within 11 (45-34) at the end of the third quarter.  After a Lauren Hall (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) layup opened the scoring in the fourth, Anderson drilled another three-pointer and at 45-39, Augustana was as close as it had been since late in the first quarter. North Park Coach Amanda Crockett called a timeout just inside of the nine-minute mark and her team responded with an 18-8 run to close the game.
 
Anderson (12) and Lopez (11) led Augustana in scoring in their final game. Junior Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Johnson finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Summerville added 12 and six, respectively.
 
Augustana finished the night 17 of 60 (.283) from the field, five of 16 (.313) from three-point range and eight of 16 (.500) from the foul line. North Park shot .453 (24-53) from the floor, .167 (1-6) from behind the arc and .700 (14-20) from the free throw line. NPU led on the boards 41-37 and committed 14 turnovers to 17 for Augustana.
