The 2022-23 season will be Head Coach Mark Beinborn’s 11th at the helm of the Augustana women’s basketball program. He took over the Vikings’ top position prior to the 2012-13 season after spending four years as an assistant on the Augustana staff. Beinborn is the seventh head coach in program history.
From 2016-20, Beinborn’s teams compiled a 60-44 record—the most wins in a four-year span for the Vikings since the early 1990’s. His 2019-20 outfit went 14-13 overall and 8-8 in the CCIW, posting the program’s fourth straight winning season for the first time in 27 years and winning its first postseason game since 1990. Augustana finished 14-12 in 2018-19 and 8-8 in the CCIW, earning a spot in the conference tournament. The Vikings were 15-10 overall and 8-8 in the league in 2017-18. Beinborn guided his 2016-17 squad to the program’s best season in 24 years when Augustana finished 17-9 overall, 10-6 and in fourth place in the CCIW and earned a conference tournament berth. He directed the nation’s fourth-highest scoring offense that year at 82.2 points per game.
In his first season at the reigns, Beinborn’s team made great strides in getting to where he wanted the program to be. Having only two seniors, he asked his underclassmen to play heavy minutes. Despite the lack of overall team experience, the Vikings compiled a 7-18 overall mark, and 2-12 mark in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. During his second season, Beinborn was able to rely more heavily on his four seniors, while also getting solid contributions from underclassmen. The Vikings finished the season with a record of 6-19, including a 2-12 record in CCIW play. In 2014-15, Beinborn’s squad finished 9-16 overall and 3-11 in the CCIW. In 2015-16, Augustana went 10-15 overall and 5-9 in the league—the program’s best CCIW mark in 12 years—setting the stage for 2016-17.
Prior to coming to Augustana, Beinborn served as the assistant men's coach at Edgewood from 2006 through 2008. While at Edgewood, he helped direct the women’s team to a conference championship and NCAA tournament berth. Before arriving at Edgewood, Beinborn also assisted with the men’s team at his alma mater, University of Dubuque. He also coaches Moline/Rock Island girls’ AAU team during the off season.
Beinborn is a 1998 graduate of the University of Dubuque with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. He received his Master of Arts in human services from Liberty University in May of 2012. He was a two-time all-conference performer in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic conference while playing at Dubuque, where he was a two-time team captain. While at Dubuque he twice won the "Student Leadership Award". Following his collegiate days, Beinborn competed in a semi-pro league in Wisconsin.
Mark lives in Davenport with his wife Jill—and sons Marcus and Cole. Daughter Macy is a senior on Beinborn’s 2022-23 Viking squad.
