Augustana's 84-78 win over Coe
Monday at Carver Center.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana outscored Coe by nine points each in the first and fourth quarters Monday on its way to an 84-78 victory over the Kohawks at Carver Center. Coach Mark Beinborn's squad won for the sixth time in its last seven outings to improve to 7-5 on the season. Coe dropped to 6-5 on the year.

Sophomore Lauren Hall (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) scored the first bucket of the game and finished the first quarter with six points as the Vikings built up an 18-9 lead.

Justice Edell's (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) basket at 8:10 of the second quarter pushed the Augustana advantage to its largest of the game at 26-11, but the Kohawks outscored the Vikings 26-9 the rest of the way. Lexi Doyle's jumper 5:42 before halftime trimmed Coe's deficit under double digits (29-21) and Taylor Huber's putback off a missed free throw beat the buzzer to send the visitors to the locker room with a 37-35 lead.

Jackie Feldt had two baskets as the Kohawks scored the first six points of the second half to take their largest lead of the night at 43-35. Augustana responded with a 16-8 run over the next six-plus minutes. An Edell three-pointer with 2:05 left in the third tied it at 51-all and freshman Macy Beinborn (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) scored to tie it at 53-all 25 seconds later. Coe scored the next six points before Jeni Crain's (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) conventional three-point play pulled the Vikings to within 59-56 at the end of the quarter.

The hosts stayed within striking distance early in the fourth, but it wasn't until an Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) steal led to a Crain layup with 5:22 to play that they pulled even again at 68-all. After the teams traded baskets, Beinborn hit a three-pointer and Augustana had the lead for good. A Crain steal and layup and a Mia Lambert (Macomb HS, Macomb, Ill.) three-pointer extended the advantage to 78-70. Coe would get as close as 81-78 before freshman Gabriela Loiz (Alleman HS, Davenport, Iowa) hit three of four free throws in the final 33 seconds to ice the victory.

Five Vikings scored in doubles figures, led by Jones' game-high 21. Hall added 14, along with a team-high five rebounds. Lambert had a dozen, Beinborn 11 and Edell 10. Jackie Feldt finished with 21 points for Coe.

Augustana connected on 28 of 51 (.549) field goal attempts—including nine of 18 (.500) from three-point range—and 19 of 29 (.655) free throws. Coe also shot it well, hitting .525 (32-61) from the floor, .533 (8-15) from long range and .600 (6-10) from the foul line. The Kohawks controlled the boards by a 37-20 margin but committed 18 turnovers to the Vikings' 15.

Beinborn's crew moves back into CCIW play on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Augustana visits Carthage, with tipoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
