Izzy Anderson, who was honored at halftime of the men's game for becoming the
11th player in Augustana history to score 1,000 points, directs traffic
during the Vikings loss to Carthage on Saturday night.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Carthage scored 13 of the game's first 16 points and used that quick start as the fuel for a 73-54 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin win over Augustana on Saturday, January 12 in the Carver Center. The Lady Reds snapped a six game winning streak by
Mark Beinborn's Vikings in the process.
Junior
Mia Lambert (Macomb HS, Macomb, Ill.) hit a three point field goal in the game's first minute to give Augustana a 3-1 lead but Carthage scored the next 12 points to take a 13-3 advantage. The Lady Reds were never headed after that and the Vikings only got it into single digits one time in the final three quarter of the contest.
Carthage connected on 12 of 20 three point field goals (.600) and of the 18 field goals the Lady Reds made in the game, only six were not of the three point variety. Carthage also went to the free throw line 35 times and made 25.
The Vikings had trouble shooting the ball as they made just 21-68 (.309) from the field and were just 5 of 26) .192 from three point range.
Augustana was led in scoring by senior
Izzy Anderson (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) with 15 points while senior
Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) had 12 and Lambert scored 11. Junior
Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) led the team in rebounding with seven as the two teams each had 38 boards.
Carthage got 21 points from Autumn Kalis while Madie Kaelber had 17 points and Bailey Gilbert dropped in 12. Sammie Woodward was also in double digits with 10 points.
Carthage moved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the CCIW while Augustana falls to 10-6 and 4-3. The Vikings will host league leading Wheaton on Wednesday, January 16 in the Carver Center with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
