ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshman Brandon Knapp (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) scored in the 50th minute Friday to lift Augustana to a 1-0 win over Coe at Thorson-Lucken Field. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, September 2, but lightning suspended play 30 minutes in. Friday's contest was played in its entirety. Coach Mick Regan's squad evened its record at 1-1, while the visiting Kohawks dropped to 0-3 on the year.

The first half was dominated by the defenses. The sides combined for just five shot attempts—none in the last 23 minutes of the period. The Vikings got off three shots and Coe two, including the only try that was put on frame. It was a physical half as well, with the hosts whistled for 10 of the 11 fouls called.

In the 49th minute, Augustana had an opportunity to take the lead, but a header by freshman Otis Maberry (De La Salle HS, Chicago, Ill.) went wide left, leaving the match scoreless. However, less than a minute later, junior Adam Bauman (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) served in a long pass from near midfield. Junior Salah Aghlaf (Casablanca, Morocco) redirected it slightly and Knapp beat Kohawk keeper Alec Balta for the only goal of the night.

The Vikings kept the pressure on, getting off another six shots in the half. Coe's only attempt of the period came off the foot of Luis Gonzalez in the 80th minute and was blocked by an Augustana defender.

The hosts ended up with an 11-3 advantage in shots. Each side put just a single shot on frame. Viking junior Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) recorded the only save of the match. Augustana had a 3-1 edge in corners and was called for 21 fouls to nine for the Kohawks.

Regan's crew is back in action on Sunday, September 9, traveling to Galesburg, Illinois to face Knox at 1:00 p.m.
