APPLETON, Wis.  – A total of 15 different players either scored a goal or assisted on one Friday, as Augustana defeated Lawrence 8-0 at the Banta Bowl. The Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings improved to 5-1 on the season, while the host Vikings fell to 0-6.
 
Junior Lauren Muzzalupo (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) started things off, scoring off an assist from sophomore Grace Sigler (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) just over a minute in. In the 17th minute, junior Hannah Rossi (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) fed sophomore Grace Bradley-Leon (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.), who scored to make it 2-0.
 
A corner kick by senior Abby Wendell (Hersey HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) in the 34th minute led to the third goal for Mejia's squad. Sophomore Karissa Gottardo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) scored, with Wendell and sophomore Jenna Dvorak (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) credited with assists.
 
Senior Karleen Gomez (Grayslake HS, Hainesville, Ill.) parlayed an assist from junior Sabrina DiFiori (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) into a goal in the 42nd minute and Augustana took a 4-0 lead to intermission.
 
Freshman Gabriela Arreguin (Beloit Memorial HS, Beloit, Wis.) made it 5-0 in the 47th minute. Senior Haley Grunewald (Freeport HS, Freeport, Ill.) was credited with the assist. In minute 59, senior Natalie DeBartolomeis (Mullen HS, Lone Tree, Colo.) scored from far out on the right wing, placing her blast perfectly over the top of Lawrence keeper Katlyn Seiffert.
 
Goals by freshman Marcela Arreguin (Beloit Memorial HS, Beloit, Wis.) and sophomore Cameron Kekelik (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) in the 73rd and 74th minutes, respectively, rounded out the match's scoring. Arreguin's goal came off a corner by senior Jordyn Sundberg (Aurora Central Catholic HS, Oswego, Ill.).
 
Augustana outshot Lawrence 41-1, putting 28 of its attempts on frame. Claire Vinopal made 14 saves for the hosts in the first half and Seiffert six more in the second. Mejia's bunch also led in corners 11-1.
 
Augustana returns to Thorson-Lucken Field on Sunday, September 16 to host Nebraska Wesleyan in a 2:00 p.m. match to lead off a women's/men's doubleheader.
