23-6 loss to Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday in Bloomington, Illinois.
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The 2018 men's lacrosse season came to an end for Augustana Wednesday night with a 23-6 loss to Illinois Wesleyan at Tucci Stadium in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament. The Vikings finish the year 8-8, while the Titans will advance to the championship game with a 15-3 record.
Peter Trunk scored twice as IWU took a 4-2 lead after one quarter. Juniors
Jason Van Dyck (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and
Lee Whorwell (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) scored for the visitors.
James Maibuecher, Alex Doorenbos and Bailey Marth each scored twice for the Titans in the second quarter and Trunk added his third goal of the night to extend the margin to 11-4 at halftime. Freshman
Joey Kreis (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) and Whorwell accounted for the Vikings' second-quarter goals.
After Van Dyck's goal opened the second-half scoring, IWU responded with 10 straight tallies over 11½ minutes of the third and fourth quarters to go up 21-5. Whorwell scored with five minutes left before the Titans added two goals to account for the final.
Maibuecher finished with a game-high six goals and Nick Winter a game-high three assists. J.C. Grabarek won 20 of 23 faceoffs.

IWU finished with advantages of 57-35 in shots, 43-22 in shots on goal and 49-27 in ground balls. The Vikings committed 34 turnovers to 30 for the hosts.
