AUGUSTANA 12, ELMHURST 2

The Vikings took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second. Alyssa Klahn's (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) sacrifice fly plated pinch runner Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) with the game's first run.

Haley Ruch's (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) one-out solo homer to left center ignited a three-run Augustana third. Junior Marissa Catalano (Lake Park HS, Medinah, Ill.) added a two-run blast later in the inning to knock out Bluejay starter Stephanie Sturino and make it 4-0.

The Vikings added three in the fourth on Zayne Blumberg's (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) two-run homer and an RBI  single by Brittney Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East, Mokena, Ill.).

Freshman satrter Alivia Phelps (Coal City HS, Mazon, Ill.) shut Elmhurst out through four innings, but the Bluejays got to her for a pair of runs in the fifth. Alyssa Ressinger had an RBI double and Tara Canella a run-scoring single.

The hosts responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth to end the game early. The big blows in the fifth were Dina Falk's (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) leadoff triple and an RBI double by Ruch. Klahn finished off the contest with a three-run homer to center in the sixth.

Phelps scattered nine hits in six innings, walking one and fanning three to improve to 3-0 with the win. Sturino suffered the loss.

Ruch finished 3-for-3 to pace a 13-hit Augustana attack. Falk, Klahn, Blumberg and Catalano each had two hits. Klahn drove in four runs and Blumberg three.

ELMHURST 5, AUGUSTANA 2

Six of the seven runs in game two came in the first two innings. The Vikings, the designated visitors, tallied a run in each of the first two innings, but Elmhurst answered with two in each frame.

An RBI single by freshman Molly Wrenn (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) in the top of the first put Augustana on top, but Ressinger touched Augustana freshman Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) for a two-run homer in the bottom half.

In the second, junior Baillie Brooks (Dakota Ridge HS, Littleton, Colo.) drew a leadoff walk and was pinch run for by classmate Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.). Wilson moved to second on an Amanda Ray (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) sacrifice, stole third and scored the tying run on an error.

A walk, two singles and an error led to two Bluejay runs in the bottom of the second.

Elmhurst added an unearned run off freshman reliever Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartburg, Ill.) in the sixth. Sturino reached on an error leading off and eventually scored on a Val Perelli groundout.

Bluejay starter Emily Despain (4-6) went the distance, allowing five hits and two runs, both unearned. Peine, who gave up five hits and four runs (three earned) in four innings, fell to 3-4 with the loss.
