Vikings drop neutral-site game to BSC

Senior McKay Potter won six of eight faceoffs and grabbed a team-high
seven ground balls Saturday in Augustana's 14-7 loss to Birmingham-
Southern at the Lou Fusz Complex in St. Louis, Missouri.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Birmingham-Southern's Peyton Taylor scored four second-half goals Saturday to lead the Panthers to a 14-7 win over Augustana at the Lou Fusz Complex. The Vikings saw their five-game winning streak snapped and are now 5-4 on the season. BSC improved to 8-4 on the year.
 
Justin Dennis scored twice as the Panthers took a 4-3 lead after one period. Freshmen Trever Moore (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.), along with senior Nick Zielinski (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) scored for Augustana.
 
Zielinski scored the Vikings' only goal of the second quarter and Coach Dan Torie's squad trailed 6-4 at intermission.
 
Taylor found the net twice in the third quarter as Birmingham-Southern extended its advantage to 10-5. He added two more goals in the fourth period, as did Davis Thompson, as the Panthers pulled away.
 
Senior Cameron MacKenzie (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) matched Zielinski's two goals for Augustana, while Moore had a pair of assists to go along with his tally. Senior McKay Potter (Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.), who won six of eight faceoffs, snared a team-high seven ground balls. Senior Jake Ellis (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) played 50 minutes in goal, recording seven saves and taking the loss.
 
In addition to Taylor's four goals, four Panthers had two apiece, including Thompson, who added two assists.
 
Ground balls were even at 30 for each team. BSC outshot the Vikings 37-27 and committed 17 turnovers to 16 for Augustana.
