COE 5, AUGUSTANA 2
The first three batters of the game reached as Coe jumped on freshman
Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) for two runs in the first. Maddy Ryan drew a bases-loaded walk and the other run scored on Marisa Repp's RBI single. Ryan added a two-run homer in the third to put the Kohawks up 4-0.
Augustana cut the deficit in half with a run each in the third and fourth. In the third, sophomore
Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) reached on a two-out error and
Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) and
Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) followed with singles. Blumberg's hit plated Falk. Junior
Clare Kramer's
(Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) one-out solo homer in the fourth pulled the Vikings to within 4-2.
Coe gave Olson an insurance run in the fifth when pinch runner Claire Chandler scored on a wild pitch.
Olson, who gave up just one hit after Kramer's homer, set Augustana down without incident in the final three innings to earn her sixth win in nine decisions this year. She gave up four hits, walked one and fanned seven. Peine went three innings and fell to 5-5 this season. Classmate
Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartsburg, Ill.) gave up just two hits and one run in four innings of relief.
COE 9, AUGUSTANA 5
It was the Vikings that jumped in front 4-0 in the nightcap. After starters
Alivia Phelps (Coal City HS, Mazon, Ill.) and Ryan put up goose eggs for 2½ innings, Augustana put up four runs in the bottom of the third. Junior
Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) reached on an error leading off and the Vikings tacked on five singles in the frame, including one by Klahn that drove in a run and another by junior
Kelsey Heiland (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) that knocked in a pair.
The Kohawks came right back to get three off Phelps in the top of the fourth. Repp had an RBI double and Jess Brooks a run-scoring single.
The visitors took the lead with three more off Moos in the sixth. Brooks' RBI double was the big blow.
After Belo doubled and scored in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-5, Coe put up another three-spot against Viking ace
Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) in the seventh. Brooks drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Olson, who had come on with one out in the sixth, set Augustana down in order in the seventh to earn her third save. Lizzy Adams threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the pen to pick up the win. Moos (3-2) suffered the loss for Augustana.
Senior
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Belo scored twice and Heiland drove in two runs. Repp led the Kowhawks with three hits and three runs scored.
