ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshman Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wenzville, Mo.) went six strong innings in a 3-1 game two win and junior Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) returned from an injury to pick up the save as Augustana earned a doubleheader split with Carroll at Carver Field. The Pioneers won the opener by a score of 2-0. The Vikings moved to 17-9 overall and 4-4 in the CCIW. Carroll is now 17-9 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Coach Kris Kistler's club will be back in action on Thursday, April 19, hosting Coe in a 4:00 p.m. twin bill at Carver Field.

CARROLL 2, AUGUSTANA 0

Pioneer Amanda Osterhus was dominant in game one, allowing just three hits and fanning 17 to earn her ninth win in 13 decisions this year.

Carroll gave Osterhus the only run she would need in the bottom of the first. Augustana freshman Alivia Phelps (Coal City HS, Mazon, Ill.) issued three straight one-out walks and Ashley McNamara knocked in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center.

Osterhus walked the first two batters in the second—her only two of the game—but struck two in the inning to escape unscathed.

The Pioneers added a run in the fifth on Lexy Kemnitzer's leadoff homer.

Sophomores Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) and Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) and junior Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) accounted for the Vikings' three hits.

Phelps gave up just four hits in six innings, but walked seven and took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year.

AUGUSTANA 3, CARROLL 1

After Peine set the Pioneers down in order in the top of the first of the nightcap, her teammates gave her a lead with a run in the bottom half. Senior Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) had a two-out single, stole second and scored on a Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) single.

Carroll had two on with one out in the second, but Peine got Emily Green to line to Phelps at first for an unassisted, inning-ending double play. Augustana added two runs in the bottom of the frame. Senior Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) tripled in pinch runner Kaitlin Rusin (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and scored herself when junior Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) reached on an error.

The Pioneers scored their only run in the fourth. Rosalie Jrolf led off with a double and  scored on a single by Kemnitzer.

Peine exited in favor of Fredrickson to start the seventh. Leadoff hitter Veronica Rodriguez reached on an error, but the junior right-hander escaped without incident to earn her third save of the season.

Blumberg had two hits for the Vikings.

Peine scatted six hits in six innings. She walked none and fanned four to improve to 5-4 on the year. Kemnitzer (8-4) went the distance and suffered the loss.
