Junior Jason Van Dyck scored two goals Tuesday in Augustana's
15-6 setback at Carthage.
KENOSHA, Wis. –Andy Szun and Luke Seydel each scored four times Tuesday to lead Carthage to a 15-6 win over Augustana at Art Keller Field. The Vikings dropped to 7-5 on the season 2-1 in the CCIW, while the Red Men improved to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Matt Curran scored off a Szun assist to give the hosts a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The two reversed roles five minutes later, with Szun scoring to make it 2-0.
Augustana tallied the next three goals to take its only lead of the afternoon. Juniors
Jason Van Dyck (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and
Lee Whorwell (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and freshman
Shane Forsythe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge., Ill.) each scored an unassisted goal in a span of 6½ minutes to give the Vikings a 3-2 advantage with 10:52 left in the second quarter.
Colin Poitras scored two goals in the next 37 seconds to give the Red Men the lead for good. Szun added two second-period goals and Carthage took a 7-3 lead to the halftime break.
A Curran goal opened the second half scoring before a tally by senior
Cameron MacKenzie (
St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) at 8:12 of the third quarter snapped a string of six straight Red Men goals.
Seydel scored twice to give Carthage a 10-4 lead after three quarters and added two more goals in the first nine minutes of the fourth. Szun and Brody Ilstrup added scores for the Red Men, with Whorwell and Van Dyck answering for the Vikings to account for the final.

Jake Ellis (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) recorded 11 saves for Augustana. Carthage's Zerik Rodriguez turned away 14 Viking shots in 57 minutes in goal.

The Red Men outshout their guests by a 39-33 margin, snared 31 ground balls to 20 for Augustana and committed 10 turnovers to 15 for the Vikings.
