in game two of Augustana's doubleheader split with Millikin
Wednesday at Carver Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshman Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) threw a complete game and junior Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) homered and eventually scored the winning run, as Augustana won 3-2 in game two of a doubleheader with Millikin Wednesday at Carver Field. The Big Blue rode an eight-run first inning to a 13-3 victory in game one. Coach Kris Kistler's club moved the 16-8 on the season and 3-3 in the CCIW, while Millikin is now 12-10 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Next up for the Vikings is a doubleheader versus Carthage in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 14.

MILLIKIN 13, AUGUSTANA 3

The Big Blue benefited from three hits, three walks, two errors and a hit batter in the top of the first, scoring eight unearned runs off freshman Alivia Phelps (Coal City HS, Mazon, Ill.), who lasted just a third of an inning. Both of the hits Phelps allowed were bunt singles by Millikin's first two batters, Kailey Lyons and Taylor Jordan. Kalli Farmer drove in the last run of the frame with an RBI single off freshman reliever Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartsburg, Ill.).

Augustana answered with two runs in the second and one in the third. Sophomores Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) and Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central, New Lenox, Ill.) started the second with consecutive singles. Senior Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) eventually delivered Falk with a sacrifice fly and junior Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North, Frankfort, Ill.) singled in Klahn. Junior Marissa Catalano (Lake Park HS, Medinah, Ill.) had a leadoff double and scored in the third.

Skielyr Trenkle's two-run double was the big hit in a three-run Big Blue third and Millikin added two in the fifth to make it 13-3.

Big Blue starter Cathy Lebryk pitched around a Falk double and a Klahn single in the seventh, escaping without allowing a run to close out the complete-game win. She improved to 5-4 on the season.

Phelps suffered her first loss in four decisions this year. Klahn went 3-for-3 at the plate and Falk 2-for-3.

AUGUSTANA 3, MILLIKIN 2

Peine and Kramer keyed the Vikings' game-two victory.

The freshman right-hander shut Millikin out for five innings while her teammates were staking her to a 2-0 lead. Falk led off the game with a single, moved to second on an error, to third on a Klahn sacrifice and scored on a groundout by freshman Molly Wrenn (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.). Kramer's one-out solo homer in the top of the fifth made it 2-0 Augustana.

The Big Blue got to Peine for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it. Jordan had a one-out single and scored on Alyssa Voegele's two-out, two-run homer. Peine fanned Trenkle to finish the frame.

Kramer and junior Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) had consecutive singles to start the seventh and sophomore Amanda Ray (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) plated Kramer with a sacrifice fly to give the Vikings back the lead.

Peine left two runners stranded in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the complete-game victory. She gave up five hits, walked two, fanned four and improved to 4-4 on the year. Gracie Brookens (6-5) went the distance for Millikin and took the loss.

Kramer finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one driven in.
