Junior Kelcie Fredrickson threw a complete game Friday to lead Augustana
to a 4-1 win over Houghton in Clermont, Florida.

Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) threw her fourth complete game of the spring Friday, as Augustana closed out its season-opening Florida trip with a 4-1 win over Houghton. Coach
Kris Kistler's club will bring an 8-2 record back to the Midwest, where the Vikings will be competing at the Greenville Tournament in Greenville, Illinois on March 16-17.
Houghton scratched out an unearned run off Fredrickson in the top of the first. Katie Jones reached on a one-out error and Taylor Sile and Mariah Rogers followed with singles. Rogers' plated Jones with the game's first run. Fredrickson induced a groundout and then a popout to
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) at first to escape further damage.
Augustana came back with two runs off Highlander starter Tanya Hutton in the bottom of the second. Senior
Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) got things started with a one-out single. One out later, junior
Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) walked. Freshman
Tristan Bautista (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) then reached on an error with Severson coming around from second with the tying run. Junior
Taylor Belo's
(Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) single to center knocked in Kramer with the go-ahead run.
Sophomore
Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) reached on an error to start a two-run Viking third. Senior
Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) had an infield hit and Grandt doubled to left, scoring Klahn to make it 3-1. Kramer delivered Blumberg with a single to right and Augustana led 4-1 after three.
Houghton loaded the bases in the fifth on a single, a walk and an error, but Fredrickson got Kaylee Jentsch to ground to Grandt, ending the threat.
Fredrickson fanned two Highlanders in the sixth and pitched around a two-out double in the seventh to get the win and move to 4-1 on the year. She allowed six hits and one unearned run in seven innings, walking one and fanning four. Hutton dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
Eight of the nine Vikings in Kistler's lineup had a hit, with Blumberg stroking a pair.
