knocked in, and her first career home run Friday in Augustana's
doubleheader sweep of Dubuque at Carver Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in Friday's nightcap, winning 7-6 to complete a doubleheader sweep of Dubuque at Carver Field. Coach Kris Kistler's club, now 13-3 on the year, won the opener 9-0. The Spartans dropped to 4-12 on the season.

AUGUSTANA 9, DUBUQUE 0

Junior Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) tossed a five-inning shutout and freshman Molly Wrenn (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) knocked in three runs and scored two in a 9-0 Viking win in the opener.

After Fredrickson fanned two batters in a 1-2-3 top of the first, the offense staked her to a lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half. Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox,, Ill.) drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI double by Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.). Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North, Frankfort, Ill.) added an RBI single in the frame.

Marissa Catalano's (Lake Park HS, Medinah, Ill.) leadoff single sparked a four-run Augustana second. Klahn and Blumberg each drove in a run with an infield grounder. Wrenn's two-run double to center was the big hit.

The Vikings added three in the fourth to account for the final. Klahn and Blumberg singled and doubled, respectively, with one out to get things started. Wrenn squeezed in a run and Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) drove in two with a single to right.

Fredrickson set Dubuque down in the top of the fifth to end the game early. She scattered four hits, walked one and fanned six to improve to 6-2 with the win. Spartan starter Makenzie Kopp took the loss.

Wrenn had just one official at-bat, but scored twice and knocked in three. Blumberg finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Klahn was 1-for-2, scoring three runs and driving in another.

AUGUSTANA 7, DUBUQUE 6

Trailing 6-5 going to the bottom of the sixth in the nightcap, Augustana got a leadoff walk from Amanda Ray (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.). Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) followed with another hit and Klahn moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Blumberg's RBI single to left tied it at 6-6 and Wrenn's groundout to second plated Falk with the eventual winning run.

Fredrickson came out of the pen in relief of Viking starter Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) to start the seventh and pitched around an error and a walk to earn her second save of the season.

Taylor Allard's RBI double gave Dubuque a 1-0 lead after a half inning and the hosts tied it in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.).

The Spartans got to Peine for another run in the top of the third. Hailey Wang had a leadoff single and scored on Morgan Turnmire's RBI hit. Klahn blasted a two-run homer as Augustana answered with four in the bottom half to go up 5-2.

Freshman Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartsburg, Ill.) relieved Peine to start the fourth and Allard touched her for a game-tying three-run homer in the fifth.

Peine returned to the circle and Dubuque tallied the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth on Courtney Markin's RBI double. The Viking freshman escaped further damage though, leaving the bases full of Spartans to keep her team within striking distance.

Peine gave up two earned runs in five innings to earn her third win in four decisions this year. Kopp suffered the loss in relief.

Brittany Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) led the Augustana attack, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one knocked in. Klahn and Bloomberg each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
