Freshman Brett Kliegl had eight digs in Augustana's three-set win
over Judson in Elgin, Illinois Thursday.

ELGIN, Ill. – Freshman Justin Murphy (Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) had 10 kills and classmates Ryan Hirschel (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) and Matthew Schiferl (Wheeling HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) 35 assists and 17 digs, respectively, Thursday to lead Augustana to a three-set victory over Judson at the Lindner Fitness Center. Coach Mark Lau's club has now won three of its last four matches and is 6-10 on the season. The Eagles dropped to 4-18 on the year.

Freshman Joshua Richardson (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Hazel Crest, Ill.) opened the match with a kill for the Vikings and the visitors never trailed in a 25-13 first-set win. After Judson tied it at 2-2, Richardson turned a Hirschel assist into another kill and Augustana had the lead for good. Hirschel eventually set Murphy for a set-point kill.

The Vikings trailed just once, at 2-1, in game two. An Eagle service error and a Murphy kill gave Augustana a 3-2 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Judson whittled a deficit that had been as large as nine points (22-13) to four (24-20), but a bad set gave the Vikings set point in a 25-20 win.

The hosts committed a service error to open game three and Augustana would lead wire-to-wire in a 25-22 win. The Eagles again trimmed what had been a nine-point deficit (21-12) to two (24-22), fighting off four match points in the process, before the Vikings prevailed on a bad set by Judson.

Richardson added nine kills to Murphy's total and freshman Jason Szara (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) a half-dozen. Hirschel and Szara each had a pair of service aces and Hirschel and freshman Brett Kliegl (Neuqua Valley HS, Bolingbrook Ill.) chipped in with seven and eight digs, respectively. Freshman Andrew Housholder (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) had a team-high three blocks.

Jordan Von Borstel led the Eagles with seven kills. Manny Andrade had 17 assists and his 11 digs matched Jake Lafata for a team high.

On Friday, March 2, the Vikings take on Cardinal Stritch at 7:30 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
