runner at the plate during Augustana's 2-1, eight-inning win over the
Pioneers at Carver Field Sunday.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana dropped its first game Sunday in the Greenville Tournament at Carver Field 8-3 to Loras, but bounced back to defeat Wisconsin-Platteville 2-1 in eight innings. Coach Kris Kistler's club went 3-1 on the weekend and moved to 11-3 on the year. On March 24-25, the Vikings will host the Augustana Invitational at Carver Field.

LORAS 8, AUGUSTANA 3

The Duhawks tagged Augustana for four runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to wipe out a 3-0 deficit and win 8-3.

The Vikings got to Loras' Emily Reilly for three runs in the top of the first. Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) led off with a single to left and moved to second on an Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central New Lenox, Ill.) sacrifice. Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) and Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) followed with a triple and double, respectively, with each knocking in a run. Grandt came home with the third run on an RBI single by Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.).

Augustana put runners at second and third with one out in the third, but couldn't add to its lead.

Augustana ace Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) allowed two hits and fanned four in shutting the Duhawks out through three innings. However, Loras got the bats going in the fourth. Hannah Towns got her team on the board with an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. Melanie Gerbig added a two-run single in the frame to give the Duhawks a 4-3 lead after four.

The Vikings threatened in the sixth, but had a runner cut down at the plate and left the bases loaded. Loras added four in the bottom half to put the contest out of reach. Ashley Lentine's two-run homer was the big blow.

Reilly (3-0) put up her sixth straight goose egg in the top of the seventh to close out the complete-game win.

Blumberg finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Falk and Ruch each added a pair of hits for Augustana. Fredrickson went 5 1/3 innings and suffered her second loss against five wins.

AUGUSTANA 2, UW-PLATTEVILLE 1 (8)

Ruch's single in the bottom of the eighth scored Amanda Ray (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) with the winning run to lift the Vikings to a 2-1 victory over the Pioneers. Ray started the frame at second base and had moved to third on a Kelsey Heiland (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) sacrifice.

Pioneer Abby Burns and Augustana's Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) matched each other in the circle until the eighth. The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) drew a two out walk and eventually scored on a UWP error.

Platteville tied it in similar fashion in the sixth. Rachel Martin drew a leadoff walk. Danielle Dieckhoff ran for her and eventually scored the equalizer on an Augustana miscue. Falk kept the contest tied when she cut down Crystal Rote at the plate with a throw from center field.

The Vikings left two runners stranded in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.

Peine left two Pioneers stranded in the top of the eighth, setting the stage for Augustana to win it in the bottom half. The Viking freshman went the distance, scattering eights hit and not allowing an earned run to pick up her second win in three decisions. Burns (0-2) was the tough-luck loser.

Falk, Klahn, freshman Molly Wrenn (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) and Ruch paced the offense with two hits each.
