Senior Jack Hallmark went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI Sunday
in Augustana's 10-3 win over Plymouth State in Fort Myers, Florida.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Augustana pounded out 15 hits Sunday on its way to a 10-3 win over Plymouth State. The Vikings wrapped up their second swing through Florida and will return home with an 11-3 record. The Panthers, who defeated 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday, suffered their first loss in three games this spring.
Augustana touched Plymouth State starter Tyler Shemick for a run in the top of the first.
Carter Amundsen (Sheboygan South HS, Sheboygan, Wis.) led off the game with a single and scored on a
Jake Huber (Lockport HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) double.
Augustana added three in the top of the second.
Matt Loeffl (Grayslake Central HS, Grayslake, Ill.) stroked a leadoff double to center. After Shimeck fanned the next two batters, Loeffl stole third and scored on
Jack Hallmark's
(Cherry Creek HS, Englewood, Colo.) RBI single. After another Amundsen hit, two more runs came across on a Panther error.
Hallmark singled in
John Moraski (Kewanee HS, Kewanee, Ill.) in the third to make it 5-0 Vikings.
After Plymouth State pushed a run across against freshman starter
Matt Hoban (Westminster HS, Monarch, Colo.) in the bottom of the fourth, Augustana erupted for four more in the top of the fifth. Moraski had a leadoff single. The big hit was a two-run double off the bat of
Tyler Nunez (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.) that gave Augustana a 9-1 lead.
The Vikings' final run came on Moraski's RBI single in the seventh.
Hoban went six innings before giving way to
Connor Berek (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Brookfield, Ill.), who finished out final three frames.
Hallmark went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two knocked in. Amundsen, Huber, Nunez and Moraski each had a pair of hits. Amundsen scored three times and Moraski twice. Nunez drove in two runs.
Hoban scattered eight hits and allowed two runs. He got the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. Berek earned his first save. Shemick lasted 4 1/3 innings and took the loss.
