Platteville and Loras at the Greenville Tournament at Carver Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana scored late in both games Friday, pulling away to a pair of victories in the Greenville Softball Tournament. The Vikings downed Wisconsin-Platteville 14-5 in their first contest and defeated Loras 7-2 later in the day. The tournament was moved from Greenville, Illinois to Carver Field on the Augustana campus. Coach Kris Kistler's club, which will face the same two opponents on Sunday, March 18, improved to 10-2 on the year.

AUGUSTANA 14, UW-PLATTEVILLE 5

Augustana exploded for seven runs in the final three innings to capture its tournament opener 14-5 over Wisconsin-Platteville in six innings.

The Vikings jumped in front with three runs in the top of the second. Freshman Molly Wrenn (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) led off with a single and came around to score on a Brittany Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) base hit. Pospishil came home on a Pioneer error and a Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) infield hit plated Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) with the final run of the inning.

UWP touched Augustana starter Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) for four runs in the bottom of the third. The big hit was a three-run homer off the bat of Jessy Tanel.

The Vikings came right back with five in the top of the fourth. Pospishil's leadoff single got things started. Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) knocked in another when she reached on an error and Wrenn lined a double down the left field line to plate the final two runs of the frame and put Augustana up 8-4.

Klahn singled in two runs and Wrenn one in a four-run Viking fifth. Falk singled in Augustana's last two runs in the sixth.

Freshman Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartsburg, Ill.) relieved Fredrickson to start the bottom of the fourth and limited the Pioneers to one run in two innings of relief. Fredrickson re-entered in the sixth and set Platteville down in order, earning her fifth win in six decisions. Pioneer starter Abby Burns took the loss.

Wrenn finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Posphil was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one knocked in and Falk went 3-for-5 with two scored and three driven in.

AUGUSTANA 7, LORAS 2

Clinging to a 2-1 lead going to the bottom of the fifth, the Vikings scored two in that frame and three more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

After Augustana starter Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) set the Duhawks down in order in the first, her teammates staked her to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half. Klahn reached on a one-out error. Wrenn doubled her to third and she scored on Pospishil's sacrifice fly to right. Senior Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) delivered Wrenn with an RBI single.

Loras starter Bayley Monroe settled in and matched goose eggs with Peine until the fifth. In the top half, Ashley Lentine got the Duhawks on the board with a two-out solo homer to center. Another Loras error started the bottom of the inning, allowing Falk to reach. One out later, Wrenn blasted her first career homer to left field to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead.

Kelsey Heiland's (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) two-run double was the big hit in a three-run Augustana sixth. Falk had an RBI double as well.

The Duhawks got to Peine for a run in the seventh, but the freshman finished off the complete game, getting Lentine to foul out to end it. She allowed six hits, walked two and fanned three to pick up her first collegiate win and even her record at 1-1. Wrenn wrapped up a huge day, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two batted in.
