CLERMONT, Fla. – For the second day in a row Sunday, Augustana logged a one-run win over York (Pa.) and the Vikings added a victory over St. Mary's (Minn.) later in the day. With 8-7 and 5-1 wins over the Spartans and Cardinals, respectively, Coach Kris Kistler's club improved to 3-1 on the young season. Play continues in Florida on Tuesday, February 27 with games against Rose Hulman (9:00 a.m. EST) and Cabrini (2:00 p.m. EST).

AUGUSTANA 8, YORK 7

Augustana scored five runs in the top of the sixth to pull out a win over York for the second straight day.

Freshman Molly Wrenn's (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) two-run double staked Viking starter Cecelia Peine (Holt HS, Wentzville, Mo.) to a 2-0 lead after a half inning and Carly Wilson's (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) RBI groundout made it 3-0 in the top of the second. The Spartans took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. Ashley Meekins' two-run triple was the big hit.

Savannah Zittle touched freshman reliever Alivia Phelps (Coal City HS, Mazon, Ill.) for an RBI double in the fourth to make it 5-3 York.

Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) started Augustana's big sixth with a leadoff walk. Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) had an RBI single and Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) eventually drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 5-5. Zayne Blumberg (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) knocked in the go-ahead run with a fielder's choice. Wrenn drew another bases-load walk and Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.), who entered as a pinch-runner earlier inning, capped it with an RBI single to right that gave the Vikings an 8-5 advantage.

Joanna Marmo's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth pulled the Spartans to within a run, but junior Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) came out of the bullpen to start the seventh and struck out the side to earn her first save.

Falk, Wilson and Wrenn each had two hits and Wrenn drove in three runs.

Freshman Hope Moos (Lincoln HS, Hartsburg, Ill.) threw 2/3 of an inning in relief and picked up the win. York reliever Melissa Jurkiewicz suffered the loss.

AUGUSTANA 5, ST. MARY'S 1

Fredrickson got the start against St. Mary's and threw six scoreless innings before surrendering a run in the seventh. Her teammates gave her plenty of support, tallying a run in the bottom of the second and two each in the third and fourth.

Kelsey Heiland (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) singled in Brittany Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) in the second to put Augustana on top.

Klahn and Blumberg each had a sacrifice fly in the third, scoring Belo (leadoff walk) and Dina Falk (Lake Park HS, Bloomingdale, Ill.) (single), respectively, to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Belo drove in Heiland with a fielder's choice and Falk plated Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) with another for a 5-0 Augustana lead. Both Heiland and Severson had reached on errors and both runs were unearned.

In the top of the seventh, the Cardinals touched Fredrickson for a run when Jordyn Keprios drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on Haley Williams' RBI single. However, Belo fired to Heiland to cut down Justine Schultz, attempting to score on a fly ball, to end the game.

Fredrickson went the distance, allowing four hits, walking two and fanning two to improve to 2-0 on the year. St. Mary's starter Amber Chow took the loss.
