Vikings fall 20-4 at Rhodes

Senior John Danko had two goals in Augustana's 20-4 setback at
Rhodes Saturday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes had 11 different players find the goal Saturday, as the Lynx posted a 20-4 victory over Augustana at Crain Field. Rhodes improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Vikings fell to 0-3.
 
Matt Perez had three goals and Addison Mueller two to propel the hosts to a 10-0 lead four minutes into the second quarter. Senior John Danko (Lockport HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) parlayed an assist from classmate Nick Zielinski (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) into Augustana's first goal 10:05 before halftime, but Rhodes scored the final two goals of the period and took a 12-1 lead to the locker room at halftime.
 
Zielinski scored an unassisted goal in the third quarter. The Lynx led 15-2 going to the fourth.
 
Danko and freshman Joe Kreis (Mundelein HS, Wauconda, Ill.) added unassisted tallies in the final period before Rhodes' Julian Pauley and Adrian Mann (two) scored the final three goals of the contest.
 
Senior McKay Potter (Hudson HS Hudson, Wis.) led the Vikings with three ground balls. Senior Hayden Holland (Owatonna HS, Owatonna, Minn.) had two caused turnovers and junior Jason Van Dyck (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) won four of 10 faceoffs. Senior Jake Ellis (Neuqua Valey HS, Naperville, Ill.) went the first 46 minutes in goal and recorded 11 saves.
 
Perez and Pauley led the Lynx with three goals each. Mueller, Mann, Ryan Fennelly, Ryan Marasco and Tommy Reingruber each scored twice.
 
Rhodes outshot Augustana 54-25, collected 36 ground balls to 19 for the Vikings and won 20 of 27 faceoffs. Augustana committed 22 turnovers to 15 for the Lynx.
 
Coach Dan Torie's club is back in action on Tuesday, February 27 against Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas. Faceoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
