Senior Meghan Stovall helped lead Augustana to a convincing 88-63
win over North Park on Saturday night. Stovall scored 12 points and enjoyed
a successful Senior Night along with classmate Victoria Allen (pictured on the front).
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana sent its two seniors out on a successful note with an 88-63 win over North Park on Senior Day at the Carver Center on Saturday, February 17. The Vikings rolled past the visitors and seniors
Victoria Allen (Eureka HS, Wildwood, Mo.) and
Meghan Stovall (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) played major roles.
Allen tied for the game's lead in scoring with 18 points. She nailed seven of 10 field goal attempts, including one of one from three point range and hit all three of her free throws. She led all rebounders with 11, had two assists and a blocked shot in 36 minutes of playing time. Stovall played 32 minutes and scored 12 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Vikings never trailed in the contest and less than five minutes into the game led 16-3 (5:56) and eventually held a 28-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter. By halftime the advantage was 24 (52-28) and with :51 left in the third period the margin ballooned to 30 (74-44).
A total of five Augustana players scored in double digits on the evening. Freshman
Justice Edell (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) tied with Allen for the scoring lead with 18 points. Edell made six of eight shots from the floor, including a perfect four of four from three point range. She hit two of two from the free throw line with three rebounds and an assist.
Junior
Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) and sophomore
Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) each had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Vikings were sizzling in the first half, making .559 of their shot (19-34) and in the second half didn't cool off that much as they made 15 of 32 (.469). For the game Head Coach
Mark Beinborn's crew shot .515 (34-66). Augustana pounded North Park on the boards and won the rebounding battle by a convincing 54-29 margin. Junior
Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) pulled down seven rebounds and had four assists while scoring six points.
North Park got 14 points each from Shaylee Sloan and Samantha Bloom.
Augustana moved its record to 14-10 overall with a season-ending trip to Naperville, Illinois on Tuesday, February 20 to face North Central next on the agenda. The Vikings are currently 7-8 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. North Park fell to 9-15 overall and 4-11 in league play.
