ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Sophomore
Karissa Gottardo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) and senior
Abby Wendell (Hersey HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) shared the Most Valuable Player awards for the 2018 Augustana women's soccer team. Gottardo was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player while Wendell took home the Most Valuable Defensive Player honor.
Gottardo scored six goals and had two assists for the Vikings on 20 shots this past fall. She had 13 shots on goal and came up with three game-winning goals. She led the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin in game-winning-goals and was a second-team all-league selection.
Wendell helped spearhead a defense that allowed just 13 goals in 19 games for a goals-against-average of 0.65. She managed to score two goals and came up with a team-leading nine assists. Her nine assists is the fifth highest single season total in Augustana history.

Faith Rund (Monticello HS, Monticello, Ill.) was chosen as the Most Improved Player and senior
Natalie DeBartolomeis (J.K. Mullen HS, Lone Tree, Colo.) was given the Iron Vikings Award.
Augustana finished the season with a 13-3-3 overall record and was 5-1-2 in the CCIW, good for second place in the league standings. The Vikings were eliminated from the CCIW Tournament in the semi-finals by Illinois Wesleyan by a score of 2-1.
