Izzy Anderson tied a school record with 37 points on Wednesday as the Vikings
lost 75-67 to 17th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Carver Center.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A school-record tying scoring outburst from senior
Izzy Anderson (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) was not enough as Augustana fell to 17
th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 75-67 on Wednesday, November 28 in the Carver Center. Anderson shot her way into the Vikings record book with 37 points but the Vikings record leveled at 3-3 with the defeat.
Anderson tied the previous school record of 37 points set by recent Tribe of Vikings Hall of Fame inductee Mary McGivern on March 3, 1989. She hit 11 of 21 shots from the field, including five of seven three pointers, and made 10 of 11 free throws. She also led the team in rebounding with five while dishing off three assists.
The Vikings kept the game close through the first two periods and trailed by just a single point (32-31) at halftime. Anderson had over half of her team's points with 16 at intermission.
Wisconsin-Whitewater used a 23-12 advantage in the third quarter to forge a 55-43 lead heading into the final stanza.
The Vikings pulled within six points early in the fourth quarter (8:34) when Anderson made a three point field goal and was fouled. She converted the charity toss and the lead was trimmed to 56-50. However, Whitewater went on an 8-0 run and with 4:27 left to play a field goal by Becky Raeder made it 64-50 in favor of the visitors.
Balanced scoring was a key for the Warhawks as four players ended the game in double figures. Raeder led the way with 19 points while Adriana Green had 13, Emily Schumacher dropped in 12 and Becky Deichl contributed 11. Whitewater dominated Augustana on the boards to the tune of a 42-31 advantage with Olivia Freckmann leading the way with 13. The Warhawks made a living at the free throw line, converting on 21 of 27 and they also turned the ball over just nine times.
Anderson was joined in double figures by junior
Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) with 15 points. Jones was good on seven of 12 from the floor but only made one of six from the free throw line. Jones tied Anderson for the lead in rebounding with five.
Senior
Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) tied Jones and Anderson for the lead in assists as each had three.
The Vikings shot .472 from the field (25-53).
Augustana is now 3-3 while Whitewater is 4-1. The Vikings will host Carroll in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener on Saturday, December 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Carver Center.
