ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana sophomore Alek Jacobs (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) was named today to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Jacobs was named as a special teams performer to the Division III District 7 unit, which encompasses schools from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. He now moves on to the Academic All-America ballot. Google Cloud and CoSIDA will announce the Academic All-America teams on December 12.
 
The son of Andrea and J.P. Jacobs of Rock Island, Illinois, Alek is a political science and economics major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.91.
 
Jacobs was named to the 2018 All-CCIW first team as a kick returner after setting Viking single-season records for kickoff returns (30) and kickoff return yards (733) this year. His average of 24.6 yards per return in CCIW contests led the league.
 
The versatile Jacobs also served as Augustana's change-of-pace quarterback and lined up at times as a slot receiver. He finished the season with 403 yards and two touchdowns on 67 rushes (6.0 yards per carry) and 12 pass receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. He added five completions in six pass attempts for 35 yards. He led the Vikings in all-purpose yards with 1,196, averaged 11.0 yards per touch and was second in the CCIW in all-purpose yards with an average of 124.8 per game.
 
In two seasons, Jacobs—who led Coach Steve Bell's squad in total offense as a freshman—has rushed 187 times for 855 yards and eight touchdowns and completed 45 of 90 passes for 362 yards and one score.
