38-9 setback on the Vikings' Senior Day at Lindberg Stadium. Both teams finished the season 4-6 overall, with the Red Men going 4-5 in the CCIW and Augustana 3-6.

The first three possessions of the game yielded three-and-outs, but on its second series, Carthage took advantage of a short field, going 39 yards in five plays for the game's first score. Colton Klein hit Kyle Kesul with a 17-yard touchdown strike and Lance Unland's kick put the visitors up 7-0 at 8:46 of the first quarter.

The Red Men started their next possession at their own 16 and after Robert Papiernik (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) and Sam Francis (Oak Park & River Forest HS, River Forest, Ill.) teamed up to sack Klein at the eight, were forced to punt from their own end zone. Bobby Jarosz (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) came clean from the right side to block Ricky Klein's kick and the punter was forced to fall on the loose ball for a Viking safety.

Augustana again failed to gain a first down on the ensuing possession and Carthage responded with an 11-play, 76-yard scoring drive. McGary carried four times for 34 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown run. Unland's boot gave the Red Men a 14-2 lead early in the second quarter.

With 8:34 remaining in the half, Carthage's Bret Patton hit Evan French for a 19-yard touchdown on an end-around pass. Unland's point after made it 21-2 and his 22-yard field goal with a second left sent the teams to the locker room with the visitors on top 24-2.

Calvert's interceptions set up the Red Men's next two scores. After the first, which he returned 40 yards, Colton Klein hit Tommy Bazarek for completions of 17 and 15 yards and McGary took it in from the six to make it 31-2 with Unland's extra point. Calvert's second pick set Carthage up at the Augustana 39. McGary carried five straight plays and eventually went in from the two for his third touchdown of the day. Unland's PAT gave the Red Men a 38-2 advantage with 2:11 left in the third quarter.

John Kappel's (Wheeling HS, Wheeling, Ill.) big hit and fumble recovery set up the Vikings' only touchdown of the afternoon. After Kappel separated French from the ball and fell on it himself, Augustana drove 59 yards in four plays for the score.  Ryan Pitra (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) had a 30-yard run and Zachary Fuller (St. Patrick HS, Schiller Park, Ill.) hit Max Uranich (La Salle-Peru HS, La Salle, Ill.) for completions of 26 and seven yards, with the latter going for a touchdown with 11:24 to play. Ryan Ganson's (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) point after accounted for the final.

Later in the quarter, Jarosz blocked his second punt of the day.

Pitra rushed for 122 yards on 24 carries to finish his career 13th on the Vikings' all-time rushing list with 2,232 yards. Fuller completed seven of 18 passes for 114 yards, falling short of school single-season records for attempts and completions. He threw for one touchdown and was intercepted twice. His top targets were Uranich (three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown) and Pitra (three receptions for 31 yards).

Linebacker Luke Sawicki (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) led the Vikings with 12 tackles (five solo, seven assisted and three for loss) and in addition to his forced fumble and recovery, Kappel recorded 11 stops, including a game-high nine of the solo variety. Linebacker Cassin Wolfe (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) added nine tackles in his final collegiate game. End Daniel Tjaden (Assumption HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) had 2½ sacks.

The program said goodbye to 14 Vikings on Senior Day. In addition to Pitra, Fuller, Wolfe and Ganson, Augustana honored Austin Nice (Normal Community HS, Bloomington, Ill.), John Asquini (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), Dario Ingardona (Rockford Lutheran HS, Cherry Valley, Ill.), Thomas McSorley (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), Ryan Hennessy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.), Luke Bleyer (Williamsville HS, Springfield, Ill.), Justin Pope (Whale Branch HS, Beaufort, S.C.), William Ingalls (Christian Life HS, Rockford, Ill.), Zach Roling (Brimfield HS, Edwards, Ill.) and Dan Foley (Lockport HS, Homer Glen, Ill.) in pregame ceremonies.
