Andria Serra (Alleman HS, Silvis, Ill.) each scored twice Saturday, as Augustana defeated Lawrence 9-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach
Scott Mejia's Vikings improved to 5-4 on the year, while their namesakes from Appleton, Wisconsin dropped to 1-8 on the season.
After Augustana had a player dragged down in the box less than a minute in, senior
Mady Huber (Legacy HS, Broomfield, Colo.) converted the penalty kick to put the hosts up 1-0.
Despite putting on constant pressure, it took the Vikings another 30 minutes to get on the board again. Sophomore
Natalia Pinto (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) fed senior
Grace Iaquinta (Lincoln East HS, Lincoln, Neb.) whose shot from the left side beat Lawrence keeper Katlyn Seiffert to make it 2-0.
In the 34th minute, freshman
Karissa Gottardo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) worked the right side and fed junior
Karleen Gomez (Grayslake Central HS, Hainesville, Ill.) with a cross that Gomez turned into her third goal of the season.
The Vikings also had three goals waived off due to offside calls during the first half and settled for a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Freshman
Sandra Camarillo (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) scored her first career goal in the 54th minute and Grunewald added her first of the game five minutes later to give Augustana a 5-0 lead.
Sophomore
Cora Jacobsen (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) tallied her second of the season in minute 68 and assisted on another Grunewald goal in the 74th.
Serra added the final two goals of the match in the 81st and 82nd minutes. Gomez assisted on the first. The tallies were Serra's second and third of the season.
Augustana dominated with a 40-0 advantage in shots, including 15 attempts put on frame. The Vikings also took 15 corners in the match to none for the visitors.
Senior
Bailey Bradford (Deerfield HS, Riverwoods, Ill.) played the first half in goal and extended her current scoreless minute streak to 243 without facing a shot. Freshman
Sydney Ion (Aquinas HS, La Crosse, Wis.) finished up in goal. Seiffert recorded six saves for Lawrence.
On Wednesday, October 4, Mejia's bunch will travel to Stevens Point, Wisconsin to take on UW-Stevens Point in a 4:00 p.m. match.
