Artman goal helps lift Vikings to 1-0 win at Coe

Sophomore Daniel Artman scored an unassisted
goal which proved to be the game-winner as Augustana
defeated Coe 1-0 on Saturday, September 30 in 
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After knocking on the door the last few outings, the Augustana men's soccer team finally kicked it in on Saturday, September 30 and recorded its first win of the 2017 season. The Vikings went on the road and defeated Coe 1-0 in non-conference action in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
Head coach Mick Regan's team lost in overtime to Elmhurst on Wednesday, September 27 by a score of 3-2 and last Sunday, September 24 the Vikings tied an undefeated Simpson team 2-2. The decision before Simpson was a 2-1 loss to Knox on Saturday, September 16.
 
The Vikings turned the tables on Saturday and sophomore Daniel Artman (Schaumburg HS, Hanover Park, Ill.) provided the lone goal when he scored unassisted midway through the first half (24:25).
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) picked up the shutout victory as he recorded six saves during the match. Coe did not attempt a shot in the final 30 minutes of play as the Vikings back-line in front of Klaber was outstanding. The Kohawks Luis Gonzalez took a shot at 59:27 that was saved by Klaber but that was the last time he faced a shot.
 
Augustana held a slight 11-10 edge in shots attempted over the Kohawks and both teams had six shots on goal. For the Vikings, sophomore Matthew Allen (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) had a team-leading five shots with three of them on goal. Six other Augustana players had one shot each.
 
The Vikings led in corner kicks by a slim 4-3 margin.
 
Augustana is now 1-6-1 overall and will play again on Wednesday, October 4 at Wisconsin-Whitewater with the match starting at 7:00 p.m. Coe dropped to 3-6-0 on the year.
