Vikings fall 2-0 at Adrian

Junior Jeff Bell stopped four Adrian shots Sunday, but Augustana
dropped a 2-0 decision to the Bulldogs.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Augustana men's soccer continued its season-opening four-game road trip Sunday, falling 2-0 to Adrian at Docking Stadium. The Vikings dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the host Bulldogs were playing their season opener.
 
Adrian outshot Augustana 10-3 in the first half. Brandon Katona put the Bulldogs on top 1-0 with a goal in the 31st minute. Tad Davis was credited with an assist on the play. A minute later, Davis' header sailed wide. In the 35th minute, keeper Jack Dalzachio stopped a Matt Allen (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) shot from the 18 and the teams eventually went to the halftime break with Adrian holding that 1-0 lead.
 
The Bulldogs extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 61st minute on Garrett Miller's unassisted goal. That would be the final, as the Vikings failed to get off a shot attempt over the final 37 minutes.
 
Junior Jeff Bell (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) went the distance in goal for Augustana and recorded four saves. Dalzachio played the first half for Adrian, stopping a pair of shots and earning the win.
 
For the match, the Bulldogs held a 16-4 advantage in shots and put six shots on frame to two for the Vikings. Adrian also had a 10-4 edge in corners.
 
Augustana will be back in action on Friday, September 8 at Aurora. That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
