NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Sophomore Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) allowed just one run in a complete-game victory in game two Tuesday, as Augustana salvaged a split in its doubleheader with North Central at Shanower Field. The Cardinals won the opener 6-5 in nine innings. The Vikings close the 2017 season with a 14-22 record and a 6-10 mark in the CCIW. North Central moved to 20-18 overall and 9-7 in the league.
 
NORTH CENTRAL 6, AUGUSTANA 5 (9)
 
Jenna Trojniar's one-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the hosts to a win in the opener. Trojniar singled up the middle off Augustana's Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.), plating Taylor Clugston, who had led off the frame with a single to left, with the game-winner.
 
The Vikings had rallied from a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh. In the fifth, junior Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) and sophomore Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) had consecutive one-out singles against Jessica Weaver. A bunt by sophomore Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) scored Severson and moved Wilson to second. Senior Amanda Ebert (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) drew a walk, junior Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) reached on an error that plated Wilson and freshman Brittany Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) singled in Ebert to get Augustana to within 5-4.
 
In the seventh, Blumberg had a one-out single and went to third on a Cardinal error. Pospishil followed with a single to right center to tie the contest at 5-5.
 
North Central touched Fredrickson for a run in the first on Samantha Phelps' RBI single.
 
After the Vikings tied it 1-1 on Ebert's two-out RBI double in the third, Clugston hit a grand slam in the fourth to put the Cardinals up 5-1.
 
Fredrickson put up four straight goose eggs before North Central won it in the 10th. She suffered the loss, falling to 6-11 on the year. Sarah Esposito (5-3) went the last inning and two thirds to get the win.
 
Ebert, Pospishil and Severson led a 13-hit Augustana attack with three each.
 
AUGUSTANA 6, NORTH CENTRAL 1
 
Klatt scattered six hits in the nightcap, allowing her only run on a Rachele Belletini RBI single in the sixth. She improved to 3-5 on the year.
 
The Vikings staked Klatt to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Ebert led off with a single, moved to second on a Pospishil groundout and to third when Klatt helped herself with a single. A wild pitch brought Ebert home with the game's first run.
 
Shelby Grandt's (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) two-run double in the third scored Wilson and sophomore Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) to make it 3-0 Augustana.
 
Anderson's two-out walk started a two-run fifth for the Vikings. Grandt followed with an infield hit and Ebert reached on an error that scored Anderson. Pospishil then made it 5-0, plating Grandt with a single to right.
 
After North Central's run in the top of the sixth, Augustana answered in the bottom half. Grandt led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on Madeline McGuire's (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) pinch-hit RBI double. Klatt set the Cardinals down quietly in the top of the seventh. Jennifer Yager (6-8) took the loss.
 
Grandt had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. Anderson scored twice and Ebert and Pospishil each added their fourth hits of the day.
