GAME 1: Augustana 2, Monmouth 1

Senior Amanda Ebert (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) hooked a two-run home run just inside the left field foul pole in the bottom of the sixth inning and that proved to be the difference as Augustana defeated Monmouth 2-1 in the first game of a non-conference double header on Thursday, April 27. Ebert's homer, her third of the year, came with one out in the home half of the sixth. She chased sophomore Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) home after Anderson singled to reach base.

Neither team was able to generate much offense on a cold night with the wind blowing from right to left. There were only nine hits total in the contest as both starting pitchers went the distance. Ebert had two hits in the game to lead the Augustana offense.

In the second inning the Fighting Scots took advantage of two Augustana errors to push across an unearned run against Viking starter Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.). Fredrickson struck out two, walked two and gave up just four hits in her seven innings as she raised her record to 6-10.

Ebert had two hits in the game to lead the Augustana offense.

GAME 2: Monmouth 4, Augustana 3

The Fighting Scots put three runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning off Augustana starter Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Centennial, Colo.) and that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 Monmouth victory.

The visitors took advance of an Augustana errors and scored a single run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth the Vikings tied the game when freshman shortstop Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) singled home Klatt, who had walked and stole second.

Augustana put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. With one out sophomore Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) walked and stole second. She came home on a single by sophomore Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.). Anderson went to second on the throw home that was too late to get Wilson. Anderson went to third when Ebert reached on an error and eventually scored on a fielder's choice by senior Madeline McGuire (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.).

The lead was short-lived, however, as Monmouth opened up the top of the sixth with three straight singles to plate one run. After an infield out second baseman Justine Bodenhamer singled in the tying and eventual game winning runs to make it 4-3.

Augustana could only manage four hits in the game and Klahn had two of them. Klatt threw well in going the distance but she picked up the loss and dropped to 2-5 on the year. She gave up just six hits and two walks while striking out two.
