ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Several players had big days Sunday, as Augustana swept a softball doubleheader from North Park 6-2 and 8-1 at Carver Field. Sophomore Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) went 5-for-7 on the day. Sophomore Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) picked up a complete-game pitching win for the second day in a row and helped herself with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and junior Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) hit her team-leading sixth home run of the season—a pinch-hit, three-run, go-ahead shot in the sixth inning of game one.

Coach Kris Kistler's Vikings improved to 12-20 on the season and 5-9 in the CCIW. North Park dropped to 6-30 overall and 2-12 in the league. Augustana will try to extend a three-game winning streak on Wednesday, April 26, when it hosts Monmouth in a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Carver Field.

AUGUSTANA 6, NORTH PARK 2

The hosts rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener to win 6-2. Trailing 2-1, Augustana got a leadoff double from junior Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) and a game-tying RBI single by freshman Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.). Ruch singled and Hofmann followed with a three-run blast that gave the Vikings a 5-2 lead. Singles by junior Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Ill.) and sophomore Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) produced another Augustana run.

Viking hurler Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) pitched around a walk and a hit in the top of the seventh to finish off a complete game win. She allowed six hits and two runs in seven innings, walking two and fanning three to improve to 5-10 on the year.

The visitors got to Fredrickson for a run in the first. Ellie Manderfeld led off the game with a walk and Jackie Calba followed with a bunt single. After a wild pitch, Hayley Jackson's fielder's choice grounder plated Manderfeld with the game's first run.

North Park went ahead 2-0 in the third with Jackson driving in Manderfeld again—this time with a bunt single. Augustana answered with a run in the bottom half when Belo and freshman Brittany Pospishil (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) had consecutive two-out doubles.

Both Fredrickson and her counterpart, Jackson, put up goose eggs until the Vikings' explosion in the sixth. The North Park starter suffered her 12th loss in 16 decisions.

Belo and Ruch each had two hits for Augustana.

AUGUSTANA 8, NORTH PARK 1

Klatt got all the runs she would need in a four-run Viking third. Singles by junior Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) and sophomore Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) and a North Park error loaded the bases with no outs. Pospishil's sacrifice fly to center scored Severson and Klatt followed with a two-run double. Belo squeezed in Ruch to make it 4-0 Augustana.

North Park got its only run on a Sami Creachbaum RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Augustana tacked on two runs each in the sixth and seventh. Wilson had a two-run single in the sixth and an RBI grounder off the bat of Klahn and a North Park error plated runs in the seventh.

Klatt set NPU down in the bottom of the seventh to get the win and improve to 2-4. She allowed seven hits, walked none and struck out one. She also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in. Amara Leith went the distance for North Park, falling to 2-12 with the loss.

Ruch had three hits and Wilson two, along with two RBI.
