AUGUSTANA 4, ELMHURST 2
After Stefanie Sanidas set Augustana down in order in the top of the first, Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half. Lauren Rismondo had a one-out single to center and scored on Mikayla Melone's double to center.
Fredrickson got out of a jam in the third. With the bases loaded and one out, Melone lifted a fly to
Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) in right field. Bri Getzloff tagged from third, but was cut down Blumberg to catcher
Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Texas) to third baseman
Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) to end the inning.
The Vikings jumped on top with four runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore
Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) drew a leadoff walk and one out later, Hofmann blasted her team-leading fourth home run of the season to left field. Singles by Blumberg and senior Amnda Ebert
(Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) and a walk to sophomore
Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) loaded the bases for Severson and the junior delivered a two-run single up the middle for a 4-1 Augustana lead.
The Bluejays answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Fredrickson shut them out over the final three innings. She stranded two runners in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to finish off her seventh complete game of the year. She improved to 4-9 with the win. Sanidas also went the distance and dropped to 6-8 with the loss.
Hofmann, Severson and Ebert each had two of the Vikings' eight hits.
ELMHURST 12, AUGUSTANA 2
Elmhurst came back to win the nightcap 12-2 as the Vikings managed just two runs on 10 hits and sophomore starter
Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had trouble finding the strike zone.
An error and three walks led to a Bluejay run in the top of the first. Val Perelli walked to force in Rismodo. Klatt left the bases loaded to escape further damage.
After Augustana left two runners stranded in the bottom of the first, Elmhurst broke the game open with six runs in the second and then knocked Klatt out in a four-run third. Hofmann came on to finish the third.
A Blumberg double and an RBI single by junior
Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) got the Vikings on the board in the third and each team plated a run in the fifth inning of the mercy-rule shortened contest.
Severson went 2-for-2 to finish the day 4-for-5. Ruch, Grandt and Hofmann each had two hits as well. Klatt took the loss, falling to 0-4 on the season, while Elmhurst's Emily Despain went all five innings to get the win and improve to 5-5.
