KENOSHA, Wis. – For the third time in its last five games, Augustana went into overtime and came away a winner Saturday. Senior Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) scored off an Anne Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) assist 53 seconds into the first extra session to lift Coach C.J. Durham's squad to an 8-7 win. The Vikings won their 33rd consecutive conference game and improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW this year. Carthage started strong, taking a 3-1 lead after nine minutes of play. Nicole Bowman, Kendell Santin and Rachel Mussell scored for the Lady Reds, while Mayer's unassisted tally at 27:29 temporarily drew Augustana even at 1-1.

The visitors responded with three straight goals to take their first lead. Mayer scored with an assist from Hopkins. Hopkins—returning from an injury that kept her out of the Vikings' last contest—tallied the tying goal at the 17:58 mark of the first half and sophomore Christina McCabe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) assisted on another Mayer goal at 12:12 to put Augustana up 4-3.

Bowman scored off a Bryanna Barrera assist for a 4-4 tie, but Mayer and Hopkins assisted on each other's goals to give the Vikings a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Barrera scored a minute and a half into the second stanza and Santin got the equalizer with 19:58 left in regulation. Mussell's 38th goal of the season gave Carthage a 7-6 lead with 12:17 left.

At the 7:56 mark, McCabe scored off a Hopkins assist to tie things at 7-7. Augustana goalie Analia Fowler (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) made a pair of saves in the final six minutes, including one on Santin's free position shot as regulation time expired.

Mayer controlled the opening draw of overtime and converted Hopkins' assist for the game winner with 2:07 left in the first overtime session.

Mayer finished with game highs of five goals, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. Hopkins scored twice and dished out a game-high four assists. Fowler recorded 10 saves and three ground balls and got the win to improve to 5-4 on the year.
