Senior catcher Brittany Kellett homered in Augustana's game one
win at Illinois Wesleyan Friday. The Vikings split their twin bill
with the Titans in Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Senior Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Ill.) homered and sophomore Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) went the distance in the circle Friday to lead Augustana to a 5-4 game one win in its doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan. The Titans rallied for four runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to pull out a 5-3 win and a split. The Vikings are now 8-16 on the season and 1-5 in the CCIW, while the Titans are 18-10 overall and 3-5 in the league.

AUGUSTANA 5, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 4

Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one. Sam Berghoff touched Fredrickson for a two-out homer to center in the first and Jillian Runyon singled in Kara Bischoff in the second.

Sophomores Haley Ruch (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) and Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) doubled in the top of the third to cut the deficit in half and junior Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) singled in Wilson with the tying run.

In the fourth,  Augustana took the lead off IWU starter Mackenzie Marquis. Junior Lauren Severson (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) led off with a single to left and eventually scored the go-ahead run on Grandt's line-drive sacrifice fly to left.

The Vikings extended the lead to 5-2 off reliever Brea Walker in the sixth. After Kellett led off with a homer to center, senior Amanda Ebert (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) doubled to left center and came around to score on Zayne Blumberg's (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) single to center.

Berghoff's two-run double in the sixth cut it to 5-4, but Fredrickson (3-8) retired the Titans in the seventh to seal the win. Marquis (6-5) took the loss.

Ebert went 2-for-3 . Severson scored twice and Grandt drove in a pair.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 5, AUGUSTANA 3

Sophomore Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) got the start for Augustana in game two and Wesleyan manufactured a run off her in the top of the first. Runyon drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice by Sydney Alery. Berghoff's fly to center moved Runyon to third and she scored on a wild pitch.

The Vikings took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ebert lined a one-out single to left and Blumberg followed with a hit to center. After IWU starter Taylor Marvin coaxed a fielder's choice grounder, Klatt helped her own cause with a three-run homer.

After the first, Klatt settled in and put up five straight goose eggs. The Titans got to her in the top of the seventh, though. A Julie Josten single, a walk and a double steal put runners at second and third with no outs. Sydney Wells and Amanda Lack followed with consecutive RBI groundouts to second, tying the contest at 3-3. Runyon kept the inning alive with a bunt single and Alery and Berghoff followed with a triple and double, respectively, to put IWU up 5-3.

Marquis finished up a 3 1/3-inning relief stint with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to earn her seventh win in 12 decisions. Klatt dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

Blumberg, Severson and sophomore Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) each had two hits for Augustana.
