Senior Jared Hawkins scored two goals in Augustana's 17-5 loss
at Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday.
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan got excellent balance Wednesday, with 11 different players tallying goals, to post a 17-5 win over Augustana at Tucci Stadium. The Titans improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW, while the Vikings dropped to 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in the league.
Junior
John Danko (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) scored off a
Cameron MacKenzie (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) assist to give Augustana a 1-0 lead with 10:43 left in the first quarter, but the hosts responded with four straight goals. MacKenzie scored at the 4:05 mark to pull the Vikings to within 4-2 before Will Rossi's tally with 31 seconds left gave IWU a 5-2 advantage after one period.
Titans Bailey Marth (two) and Evan Mok-Lamme accounted for all the second quarter goals as Wesleyan took an 8-2 lead to the locker room.
Sophomore
Adam Borgetti (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and senior
Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) scored for Augustana in the third, but IWU found the net six times to lead 14-4 after three. Michael Julius scored twice in the period.
After three fourth-quarter Titan goals, Hawkins scored with 3:42 left to account for the final.
Sophomore goalie
Jeremiah Heredia (Warren HS, Gurnee, Ill.) recorded a school-record 22 saves for the Vikings.
IWU held advantages of 68-27 in shots and 51-22 in ground balls. The Titans won 22 of 26 faceoffs and committed 20 turnovers to 22 for Augustana.
The Vikings will be back in action on April 19, traveling to Naperville, Illinois to face North Central in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
