Senior Amanda Ebert homered in game two Friday, but Augustana
dropped both ends os a twin bill at 12th-ranked Coe.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. – Augustana dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Coe Friday. The 12th-ranked Kohawks scored nine runs in the final three innings to post a 9-1 victory in the opener and put together consecutive six-run frames in a 13-4 game two win. The Vikings fell to 7-11 on the year, while Coe improved to 17-2. The twin bill was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, but postponed due to inclement weather.
Coach
Kris Kistler's club is back in action on Sunday, April 2, playing a doubleheader with St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa beginning at 1:00 p.m.
COE 9, AUGUSTANA 1
Augustana grabbed the lead in the opener with a run in the top of the second. Junior
Brittany Kellett (The Woodlands HS, The Woodlands, Texas) led off with a single up the middle. Sophomore
Taylor Belo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) ran for her and moved to second on a sacrifice by freshman
Alyssa Klahn (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.). One out later, junior
Zayne Blumberg (Rock Canyon HS, Denver, Colo.) singled to center, scoring Belo for Augustana's only lead of the day.
Viking starter
Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) stranded two runners each in the first and second innings and set the Kohwaks down in order in the third before running into trouble. Maliah Fligg led off the bottom off the fourth with a home run to center that tied the game. An Augustana error and Madi Miller's homer added two unearned runs for a 3-1 Coe lead.
Haley Jones' two-run double off sophomore
Danielle Klatt (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) in the fifth extended the hosts' advantage to 5-1 and they added four runs off freshman Marissa Potter
(Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) in the sixth to end the contest early. Jess Brooks' leadoff homer to left started the last Kowhawk outburst.
Fligg went the distance in the circle, allowing six hits and no walks while fanning three, to improve to 8-1 on the year. Fredrickson (2-5) suffered the loss despite surrendering just one earned run in her four-inning stint. Kellett had two hits for the visitors.
COE 13. AUGUSTANA 4
After Viking starter
Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) stranded two runners in the first inning, Coe took the lead on Jones' leadoff homer to left in the bottom of the second.
Senior
Amanda Ebert (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) tied it with a leadoff homer in the third, but the Kohawks exploded for a half-dozen runs in the bottom half. With one out, Hofmann walked Maddy Ryan and Fligg followed with her second round-tripper of the day to make it 3-1 Coe. A pair of hit batters and a double by Miller added two more runs and Mallory McArtor capped the inning with a two-run homer to left.

Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) double and two-run Hofmann blast in the top of the fourth cut the deficit to 7-3, but the Kohawks continued to pile on runs in the bottom of the frame. They parlayed four hits, three walks and a Viking error into six more tallies.
Rachel Anderson (Rochester HS, Rochester, Ill.) drove in Augustana's final run with a two-out double in the fifth, but Coe's Alyssa Olson got the final out to finish off a five-inning complete-game victory.
Hofmann suffered just her second loss in seven decisions this year.
