The Vikings jumped on Ripon (4-10) for seven runs in the first two innings and junior Alaina Hofmann (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) cruised through six shutout frames as Augustana defeated the Redhawks 8-0.

The Vikings, designated visitors for the game, got one-out singles from senior Amanda Ebert (Geneva HS,, Geneva, Ill.) and junior Shelby Grandt (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) in the top of the first and Hofmann helped her own cause with an RBI single to right center. Grandt scored the second run on a double steal with freshman pinch-runner Kailey Hoel (Hinsdale South HS, Elmhurst, Ill.). Sophomore Carly Wilson (Johnsburg HS, Ringwood, Ill.) followed with an RBI triple to right center and freshman Alyssa Klahn plated her with a double to left center.

Sophomore Taylor Belo scored the Vikings' final run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

Meanwhile Hofmann was spinning her second shutout of the season. She gave up three singles in the fourth, but left the bases loaded. She also allowed three hits in the sixth, but her defense recorded a pair of putouts on the bases. The final out of the game came on Sara Ertel's double to center, which Ebert relayed to second baseman Ashley Klauss (Trinity HS, Chicago, Ill.), who hit catcher Kelsey Heiland (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) to cut down Teara Robinson at the plate.

Grandt finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two driven in. Hofmann, 2-for-4  at the plate with one scored and two knocked in, got the win to improve to 5-1 on the year.

DUBUQUE 6, AUGUSTANA 3

Dubuque rallied from a 3-2 deficit, scoring three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to post its fourth win of the weekend, 6-3.

The Spartans got to Vikings starter Kelcie Fredrickson (Fisher HS, Foosland, Ill.) for a pair of runs in the top of the first. Nikki Blum led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and stole home for a 1-0 Dubuque lead. Taylor Allard's RBI double drove in the second run.
