four ground balls, controlled three draws and
caused four turnovers Wednesday in Augustana's 9-8
double-overtime win at Aurora.
AURORA, Ill. – Anne Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) scored with 4:10 left in the second overtime period Wednesday to lift Augustana to a 9-8 win over Aurora at Vago Field. The victory was the Vikings' third in a row and bumped the team's record to 3-4 on the season. The host Spartans dropped to 3-4.
Aurora rallied from a 7-2 deficit, scoring six straight second-half goals to take the lead. Lauren Whitfield's free position goal with 5:41 left in regulation gave the Spartans an 8-7 lead. Sophomore

Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.), who tallied the tying goal with 4:58 left.
Aurora goalie Reilly Armstrong came up with a pair of saves in the final two minutes of regulation to ensure that the game went to overtime. In the first extra session, Armstrong made another save on a Mayer attempt with 12 seconds left and the teams went to a second OT, where Hopkins scored the game winner less than two minutes in.
The visitors controlled the first half. Mayer's free position goal at the 23:16 mark got the Vikings on the board and she assisted on a Hopkins goal at 18:01 to make it 2-0 Augustana. Taylor Arcivar converted a Whitfield assist into Aurora's first goal at the 6:59 mark, but Hopkins sandwiched a pair of scores—both assisted by sophomore
Bailey Aasen (Park HS, Cottage Grove, Minn.)—around one by Mayer and Coach C.J. Durham's crew took a 5-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Kendall Urban scored for the Spartans barely a minute into the second half and Hopkins answered off a free position attempt with 21:50 left in regulation to put the Vikings up 7-2. However, Whitfield scored three times, Kenny Hughes twice and Urban added another goal as Aurora roared back to take the lead.
Augustana held a 23-19 advantage in shots, a 24-20 edge in ground balls and controlled 14 of 21 draws.
Individually, Hopkins finished with six goals and an assist. Mayer scored three goals, had two assists, grabbed four ground balls, controlled three draws and caused four turnovers. Sophomore
Christina McCabe (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) also snared four ground balls and Hopkins and Bennett each controlled a team-high four draws.
Junior
Analia Fowler (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) allowed two goals and made two saves in 51 minutes in goal. She got the win to improve to 3-3 on the year.
The Vikings are back in action on Sunday, March 26, facing Wittenberg in a neutral-site contest at DePauw University. First draw in Greencastle, Indiana is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT.
