Junior Zachary Carlson was one of the leaders of an
Augustana defensive effort that limited MSOE to just
three shots and no shots on goal over the final 27 minutes
of Saturday's 5-3 Viking win in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

KENOSHA, Wis. – Senior Luke Burrow (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) scored the go-ahead goal late in the second quarter and sophomore goalie Jeremiah Heredia (Warren HS, Gurnee, Ill.) and the Augustana defense made it hold up as the Vikings defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 5-3 Saturday at Art Keller Field. The contest was played in Kenosha due to snow covering MSOE's Viets Field. Coach Dan Torie's outfit improved to 3-5 on the year, while the host Raiders dropped to 0-4.

The teams alternated goals the entire game with the exception of consecutive scores by Burrow at 2:33 of the second quarter and Cameron MacKenzie (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) at 1:27 of the third. MacKenzie also assisted on Burrow's goal, which put Augustana up 3-2.

With 14:51 left in the game, MSOE's Clay Gustafson scored off a Brett Laffey assist to pull the Raiders to within 4-3, but McKay Potter (Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.) completed the day's scoring with an insurance goal for the Vikings with 11:16 to play. The Augustana defense limited MSOE to just three shots over the final 27 minutes of the game, none of which were on goal.

Sophomore Erick Krall (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) got the Vikings on the board with an unassisted goal at 9:27 of the first quarter. Gustafson parlayed an Oliver Kennedy assist into a goal a minute later to tie it 1-1. In the second quarter, sophomore Nick Gallo (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) scored for Augustana and Raider Collin Fisher answered before Burrow put the visitors ahead for good with his second goal of the year.

Heredia went the distance in goal, making seven saves. Juniors Hayden Holland (Owatonna HS, Owatonna, Minn.) and Zachary Carlson (Shakopee HS, Shakopee, Minn.) keyed the defense in front of him with team highs of two caused turnovers and five ground balls, respectively.

The Vikings outshot MSOE 25-19 and held a 32-25 edge in ground balls. The Raiders won eight of 12 faceoffs and committed 22 turnovers to 20 for Augustana.

Torie's bunch is back in action on Saturday, March 25, hosting Albion in a 1:00 p.m. game at Thorson-Lucken Field.
