ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore Donovan Ferguson (Downers Grove South HS, Darien, Ill.) recorded a double-double in just his second career start Sunday and three other Vikings scored in double figures, as second-ranked Augustana defeated MacMurray 89-57 at Carver Center. Coach Grey Giovanine's club improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Highlanders dropped to 1-2.

MacMurray grabbed its only lead of the afternoon at 2-0 on a Kendall Davis bucket in the first minute. After a Ferguson put-back tied it, Brett Benning (Dakota HS, Davis, Ill.) scored to put the hosts on top 4-2. Derek Bourke tied it at 4-4 with a rebound basket, but Chrishawn Orange (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) answered with a hoop that put Augustana on top for good.

With 11:33 left in the first half, Highlander Brent Long split a pair of free throw attempts to cut the deficit to 12-10, but over the next six minutes, the Vikings went on a 17-4 run which included two three-pointers by sophomore Austin Elledge (Highland HS, Highland, Ill.). Orange's conventional three-point play at the 5:34 mark put the hosts up 29-14.

MacMurray eventually got as close as six (34-28) when Taten Musso split a pair of free throw attempts with 1:46 left in the half, but consecutive three-pointers by sophomore Lucas Simon (Notre Dame HS, Chicago, Ill.) and junior Nolan Ebel (Regis Jesuit HS, Denver, Colo.) and a pair of Ebel free throws sent Augustana to the locker room with a 42-28 halftime lead.

Orange drilled a three to open the second half and scored 10 points in the first five and a half minutes of the period as the lead ballooned to 27 points. His trey with 14:43 to play gave the Vikings a 62-35 advantage.

An Ebel basket at the 9:35 mark pushed the margin to 30 (67-37) for the first time and it reached its largest (75-41) on a Ferguson bucket with 6:48 to play.

Giovanine finished clearing his bench with three and a half minutes left, with junior Nic Uhlir (Linn-Mar HS, Marion, Iowa) scoring the Vikings' final six points.

Ebel led the Vikings with 19 points. He hit six of nine shots from the field, including four of five from long range. Orange added 17 on seven-of-12 shooting and Benning and Ferguson each scored a dozen. Ferguson also had game highs of 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Senior Dylan Sortillo (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) dished out a game-high seven assists.

Michael Cameron led the Highlanders with 26 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Augustana shot .531 from the floor on 34-of-64 shooting, including 12 of 26 (.462) from long range. The Vikings converted nine of 13 (.692) free throws and held MacMurray to .352 (19-54) shooting from the field and six of 16 (.375) from beyond the arc. Ferguson and senior A.J. Dollmeyer (Polo HS, Polo, Ill.) (seven rebounds) helped the hosts pile up a 42-28 advantage on the glass. Augustana committed 15 turnovers to 19 for the Highlanders.
