ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana used a 13-0 run midway through the fourth quarter Saturday to pull ahead of Webster and went on to a 70-64 win at Carver Center. Coach Mark Beinborn's Vikings improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Gorloks suffered their first loss in three outings.

Although the hosts never trailed by more than seven points and forged seven ties, they never held a lead through the first 33 minutes of play.

A Victoria Allen (Eureka HS, Wildwood, Mo.) layup with 7:13 to play deadlocked the contest for the final time at 50-50 and after a defensive stop, sophomore Alexis Jones (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) drained a 20-foot jumper from the left baseline to give Augustana its first lead of the afternoon at 52-50. It was one the Vikings wouldn't surrender, as they scored the next nine points as well, including a three-pointer by junior Scooter Lopez (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and a conventional three-point play by classmate Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) that made it 61-50 with 4:42 to play.

Webster would get as close as five points on four occasions in the final two minutes, but junior Izzy Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) hit three free throws and Allen two to keep the Gorloks at bay.

Although the visitors led for more than three quarters, the game was tightly played. Webster's biggest lead of seven points came twice in the first quarter, at 11-4 and 13-6. Kramer scored six points in an 11-4 Augustana run that tied the game at 17-all and Allen's layup with 31 seconds left tied it at 19-19 after one quarter.

An Aley Lucas layup at the 4:26 mark of the second quarter pushed the Gorlok lead back to five at 31-26, but the Vikings responded with a 5-1 run to close the period. Meghan Stovall's (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) three-pointer with 29 seconds left trimmed the Webster advantage to 32-31 at the half.

Consecutive Jade Sawyer three-pointers gave the Gorloks a 44-28 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter, but Kramer's bucket at the 2:52 tied the contest for the fifth time at 44-all. Webster scored the last four points of the period and led 48-44 heading to the final quarter.

Kramer finished with a game-high 17 points on eigh-of-10 shooting from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds and was the only Viking not to commit a turnover. Anderson posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Allen scored 11 as well and Jones put together a line of five points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots and three steals.

Sawyer led Webster with 15 points.

Augustana shot .456 (26-57) from the floor, including .520 in the second half. The Vikings hit five of 17 (.294) three-point attempts and 13 of 19 (.684) free throws. The Gorloks hit 22 of 63 (.349) from the field, including four of 18 (.222) from long range, and 16 of 21 (.762) from the foul line. Augustana piled up a huge 49-30 advantage on the boards to help overcome 27 turnovers. The visitors turned it over 16 times.

On Thursday, November 30, Beinborn's bunch travels to Whitewater, Wisconsin to take on the 20th-ranked Warhawks of UW-Whitewater. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
