Sophomore Jeremy Klaber recorded seven saves Wednesday as
Augustana and UW-Whitewater played to a 0-0 tie in Whitewater,
Wisconsin.
WHITEWATER, Wis. – Despite plenty of action, there were no goals Wednesday night at Fiskum Field, as Augustana and Wisconsin-Whitewater played to a 0-0 tie. Coach
Mick Regan's Vikings, who've gone to overtime in three of their last four contests, are now 1-6-2 on the year and retain possession of the Viking-Warhawk Cup. UWW is now 6-3-4 on the season.
The match saw a total of 38 shots—25 by the Warhawks and 13 by Augustana. Whitewater put seven on frame to six for the visitors. The hosts also had an 8-5 edge in corners. In addition, each side was called for 19 fouls and issued four yellow cards.
Sophomore
Jeremy Klaber (Stevenson HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) went the distance in goal for Regan, stopping seven UWW shots and recording his second straight shutout. He's logged 200 consecutive scoreless minutes, with 13 saves, since surrendering an overtime goal to Elmhurst on September 27.
Klaber's Warhawk counterpart, Chris Lucatorto recorded a half-dozen saves, including the stop of a
Grant Bracken (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) shot just before the final horn.
Senior
Victor Velazquez (Larkin HS, Elgin, Ill.) and sophomore
Matthew Allen (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) were the most active Vikings offensively. Velazquez put all three of his shots on goal, while Allen got off five attempts, putting one on frame.
Velazquez and Bracken also helped anchor the defense in front of Klaber, along with junior
Jack McKearnan (Warren HS, Gurnee, Ill.), sophomores
Tyler Duggan (Broomfield HS, Broomfield, Colo.) and
Adam Bauman (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and freshman
Sander Soerhaug (Vardafjell VGS, Haugesund, Norway).
On Saturday, Augustana travels to Chicago, Illinois to take on 17th-ranked North Park at 3:30 p.m.
