Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan scored in the 11th minute Tuesday and added a pair of second half goals to defeat Augustana 3-0 at Neis Field. The Vikings dropped to 8-7-1 on the year and 3-3-1 in the CCIW, while the 17th-ranked Titans improved to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the league.

The hosts went ahead in the 11th minute, when Cameron Hindel headed in a cross from Jordan Ellerbrock. The goal was Hindel's 12th of the season and Shannon Gatehouse was credited with an assist on the play as well.

Augustana's only shot of the first half—by freshman Allison Kestler (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.) in the 43rd minute—was wide and IWU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Freshman Sydney Ion (Aquinas HS, La Crosse, Wis.) turned away a pair of Titan shots early in the second half, but Wesleyan made it 2-0 in minute 59, when Flower Edington scored off assist from Ellerbrock and Rosie Pettenuzzo.

The Titans added their final goal in the 69th minute. After Ion made the save on a Pettenuzzo shot, Edington parlayed Ellerbrock's third assist of the evening into her second goal of the match and seventh of the season.

Junior Karleen Gomez (Grayslake Central HS, Hainesville, Ill.) and sophomore Lauren Muzzalupo (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) got off shots for the Vikings in the final 20 minutes, but IWU keeper Kelli McCarthy turned both away for her only saves of the match.

The Titans finished with an 18-4 edge in shots, putting 12 on frame to two for the Vikings. IWU also had an 11-1 advantage in corners.

Ion finished the night with eight saves.

Coach Scott Mejia's club will close out the regular season Saturday, October 28 at Carthage. That match, scheduled for 5:00 p.m., could be crucial in Augustana's efforts to qualify for the CCIW Tournament. The Vikings and North Central (3-3 in the league) are currently battling for the fourth and final tournament berth.
