ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Augustana junior defender Maggie Hoscheit (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) has been named to the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-America team in women's soccer, it was announced today. Hoscheit, a season-long starter on head coach Scott Mejia's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion Vikings, was a third team selection on the elite team.
 
Hoscheit was a key figure in Augustana's success this season as the Vikings won the CCIW title with a 7-0 league record, finished 16-5 overall and made the NCAA Division III national tournament for the third time in the last four years and for the fifth time in school history. She was also a first team all-conference selection as a defender in the CCIW. She helped anchor a defense that allowed just 22 goals in 21 matches this season for a goals-against-average of 1.08. Augustana recorded eight shutouts and gave up only 11.3 shots per game.
 
She was a co-captain for the Vikings this year and had earned two varsity letters in her first two years. A biology and pre-medicine major, Hoscheit currently carries a grade point average of 3.87. She is a member of the Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society and was also selected to the National Society for Leadership and Success.
 
Hoscheit was a member of the marketing team for the "Payne in the ALS 5000 meter" fundraising event last spring. An active member of Augustana's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, she is also a member of the school's biology club. She is currently helping a professor with a psychological-based research project. She has been very active in several volunteer events, including a Salvation Army Food Bank, Dance Marathon, Relay for Life and Hospice Volunteer. She also experienced a week-long 24 hour live-in mission trip at the Missionaries of Charity's Gift of Peace Home in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2012.
 
Augustana has long been a leader in producing Academic All-Americans under the program, which is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Vikings rank sixth all-time with 139 Academic All-Americans since the program began in 1952. Augustana is second in NCAA Division III, trailing only Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hoscheit now becomes the 140th student-athlete in Augustana history and just the third women's soccer player to make the Academic All-America team, joining Cherie (Peterson) Clark in 2000 and Carla Wagner in 2001.
 
Maggie is the daughter of John and Teri Hoscheit of St. Charles, Illinois.
